Sanyo Solar Ark – Solar Energy Panel

Sanyo in Japan has constructed an amazing solar-collecting building that embodies both clean-energy ideals and awesome architectural design strategies. The so-called Solar Ark has over 5,000 active solar panels generating over 500,000 KWh of environmentally friendly energy. Nearly 500 multi-colored lighting units placed between the various solar panels can be activated to create a variety of shapes and letters on the sides of this enormous structure.

As a working example of the potential of solar energy, the structure contains a solar museum with interactive exhibits as well as a solar lab and various meeting rooms for global environmental programs. The curved form is designed to take maximum benefit from as well as to graphically reflect the path of the sun and its energy. An elaborate truss system allows dizzying cantelevers to span out from the center of the structure and rise toward the sky.

Wopper of a plate slips threw DMV

Apparently the North Carolina DMV is unfamiliar with the darker corners of the internet because they’ve let a whopper of a plate slip through the screening process. If you’ve ever seen what this plate is referring to, may God have mercy on your soul. There are just some things you can’t unsee. We’re sure the proud new owner of this plate will have a lot of splainin’ to do when the first net savvy cop pulls him over for some form of public indecency.

Heinz Speedy Slice Turbofan Toaster

Being a big fan of toasters of all sorts, I think it’s about time that a toaster came along that utilizes, you guessed it, big fans to toast bread faster than ever before. Designed by Oliver Newberry, a graduate of Central St Martins College in London, the Turbo Toaster was created specifically to address the problem of beans getting cold while toast is getting warm. Apparently, this is a serious issue in England… Serious enough that Heinz actually hopes to have this thing on sale within a year. The working prototype uses ducted fans to blow hot air over the surface of the toast from both sides, reducing toasting time from the average of 141 seconds to a mere 50 seconds. According to various unreliable sources, the titanium fans spin at 10,000 RPM and the heating elements use “nylon-based laser technology.” I don’t know what that is, exactly, but I still want it in my toaster. Along with two huge engines.

Finaly a sollution for that pesky wiping of your ass.

Have trouble wiping your butt?

Or maybe you’re just lazy, or think it’s unsanitary. Whichever the reason, the Ultimate Solution ComfortSeat (SCS-5000) can help you conquer your worse toilet nightmares. It’s a special kind of toilet seat that cleans your butt with the touch of a button. That’s right folks: a self-cleaning nozzle extends from the bowl and washes your butt with a sweeping motion. Best of all, the wash motion, nozzle position, water pressure, and water temperature are all adjustable. Because, well, we only deserve the best when it comes to the potty, right?

Going Green – Moble power units

HYmini has created a cool little wind powered power unit.
Unfortunately-named Hymini, for charging up iPods, cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras, MP3 players, and other gadgetry. The main issue, of course: are you really going to hold it up in the wind for 20 or more minutes at a time, to charge your gear?
And how much power does a half hour of wind get you? Depends on the speed, obviously, but overall it looks like it’s enough to keep your music playing. And for $50, I’d attach one to my handlebars.

USB Mini Fridge – Gota build one of these

I found a cool DIY Mini Fridge on Gear Log. I’m not sure where to get the Peltzer element, but with the power of the Internet. it can’t be too hard.

First glimps of the new Nvidia 9800GX2

Toms Hardware has an exclusive view of the new GPU. We know that the 9800GX2 has 2 printed circuit boards (PCBs), as did the 7950GX2 in its time, two graphics processing units (GPUs) using 65 nm nodes (most likely G92s with 128 stream processors), 1 GB of memory (512 MB for each GPU) and two DVI outputs.

We don’t know yet if the GeForce 9800GX2, which is supposed to be 30% faster than the 8800 Ultra, will support Quad SLI configurations.
The expected price: around $449 US. Expected announcement date: February 14, 2008
